The Point: Pith Teaching by Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo

The following is from a series of tweets by Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo:

“Calling the Tsewei Lama from afar” does not mean asking for gifts and wishes fulfilled. It’s about devotion and faith. I mostly get requests for favors. Of course I will try to fulfill anyone’s wish. But Buddhists should also practice and learn so they can help themselves. That’s the point, as there may not always be a Lama to call on.

  1. Thank you. One of the hardest things about being a lot younger than you is being Highly Aware of the fact that I’ll likely outlive you (although HH Penor Rinpoche asked you stay a really long time, so if you could consider…).

It’s encouraging to know the path is here. Even though I’ve accomplished little, I do see differences in the areas where I’ve practiced consistently and not let myself slack off.

  2. as there may not always be a Lama to call on.
    – i think this means we as the student may not always be in the fortunate circumstance to call on the Lama, say if we die suddenly & are reborn in the lower realms where they don’t have the capacity to practice; not that the Lama leaves, the Lama never leaves! The Lama has power over life & death.
