1/22/10   Friday

Escape!  You are ready to run off for your dream weekend.  The faster the better.  You want to hide somewhere and leave your problems behind. Fantasy has a strong pull today.  Make plans to spend time near water, to see movies that inspire you or take you into a different realm.  Music and art are favored today.  Later in the day you still have the urge to move fast but you can’t decide where you want to go or what you want to do.  You’re spinning your wheels.  You could find yourself saying, “I want to do something but I don’t know what it is!”  Stick to your previous plan or you’ll become confused and frustrated.

Bright, shining

Star child

Tripping, dancing

In the light

Who are you?

I am

The lover; the beloved.

The father and the child.

The voice and the song.

The kingdom is mine!

Playfully, joyfully fathered by

All that is

I am born

Into glory!

I am glory!

Born to soar,

I hold in my hand

The seed and the fruit of forever

What a joy to cherish

This moment.

Forever-now.

To see in myself

The promise.

The song of love, sung

By me, for me.

Born in light

I am light;

Dazzling!

Pure, perfect crystalline

Light.

Becoming, multiplying, forever.

I am bathed

In exquisite joy –

Always.

One with Infinity

Star child!

1/21/10   Thursday

You are ready to surge ahead today but you meet an obstacle early on.  After that you are free to go go go!  Doctors and all medical professionals are highlighted.  If you need a physical examination, a dental or counseling appointment, go ahead and schedule one. Those in the helping professions are especially good these days.  You could find the doctor of your dreams, the counselor who really helps you and the dentist who knows what your problem is.  If you are hospitalized it will be a good experience.  Medicines are effective and illnesses are favorably healed.  A new cure for a previously untreatable disease could be discovered.  A heart to heart talk with a woman can clear up a problem.

1/20/10   Wednesday

Men and people in authority experience a new burst of energy today.  Friends are helpful and loving.  A sense of compassion for those who are suffering is in the air.  You are more willing to get out there and help those in need.  You feel less group oriented and more oriented toward helping.  Consider where you feel compassion the most:  is it toward children, animals, those who are sick, poor, oppressed?  Find out where you feel most strongly about helping others and become involved.  At the same time watch your dreams and fantasies closely for new information that comes to you, they could be showing you the future.  Guard against escapist behavior, feeling sorry for yourself, or engaging in criminal activity. It’s time to help others, or you could become the one who needs help!

Intuition is especially accurate, and good friends are willing to spend time with you.  Men are busy wrapping up last minute business and may be too busy to help due to prior commitments but they should still pay attention to their hunches. Women and children are full of dreams and new ideas.  A beneficial outside force is entering the picture and it is opening a new door into a previously blocked situation.  You are looking in one direction for a solution to a problem and the solution sneaks up behind you!  Help comes from an unexpected and generous source.  You could sell something for a good price.

What’s in a Word?

How do we reframe our perspective, especially when it comes to everyday stress? Words have power when spoken from the heart and based on what is real.  In other words, nothing contrived or pretentious.  Words have influence, and it is influence that guides our perspective about everyday “things.” Words can carry a lot of weight when they become pertinent to a set of circumstances and situations in play.  Superficial conversation usually offers little in the course of communication and connection, whether that is between people, or within oneself. Our ability to reframe our perspective is firmly founded in our ability to use words of influential assertion that provokes change.

For this week’s reading given the question and contemplation, the I Ching is:

Wind over Mountain; 53 as Original hexagram
Wind over Fire; 37 as the Expansion
Fire over Water; 64 as the Kernel

The text tells us that change is a gradual process, and one must change within, before there is change without. If we really want to learn how to reframe our perspective about a situation, then we have to look at the words we use, and how we use them, for ourselves internally, and how they are expressed outwardly.  Words carry a lot of power within, and without.  We can begin our practices of reframing immediately through the use of language; instead of saying “but” say “and”, instead of saying “I can’t” say “I can”, and begin to understand that upset is actually optional.  Again, change does not come quickly, and we have to start where we are.  Using words is a good and safe place to begin the reframing process, and soon the habitual tendencies of the past go away, and new more beneficial habits are cultivated.

Change is inevitable, and should we make the decision to go with it, we will find that reframing our perspective about circumstances and situations becomes more natural. And, it is constant work on the development of one’s moral compass and direction. “The Tree on the mountain is visible from afar, and its development influences the landscape of the entire region.  It does not shoot up like a swamp plant; its growth proceeds gradually.”

We live in a time where we are faced with difficult challenges and tasks.  Often times we feel the weight of obligation and responsibility.  These feelings can seem overwhelming, especially in times of crisis or chaos.  What if we took a moment of pause and practiced reframing the situation through the power of words? What would it say to us then? Perspective is developed at a very foundational level, and thus grows with us through the years.  The good news is that it is adjustable; we can learn how to reframe our perspective and gain a new outlook.

Challenges and tasks are action items that can bring groups and teams together to accomplish a very important goal.  Through the power of words in communication, new perspectives can take hold and create newly defined directions, with benefit and accomplishment. It all starts within us first however. We must make those changes within ourselves before we can truly influence and appropriately “handle” the external forces around us.

Have a wonderful week, and chose your words carefully.  🙂

“From the Vajrayana or tantric point of view, the changes of the Sun and Mon produce a shift or change in the elements.  While there is a shift on the more physical or gross level (the physical elements of the body), there is also a shift on a more subtle level – a shift in the wisdom mind (potential enlightened mind).  This is sometimes referred to as the wind energy.  This subtle system, which is not material or physical, is related to the mind.  According to the Vajrayana practice, as we will gradually and eventually learn as we progress on the path, when all the different wind energies are channeled into what is known as the central or life channel, there is the experience of enlightened mind.  That is how practitioners enter into the state of indestructible Samadhi and other meditative states.  Related to that, on the occasion of the Full Moon, the 15th Moon, the 15th day, the right peripheral wind energy (also known as the white element) moves closest to the central channel.  On the day of the New Moon, the wind energy of the left peripheral channel (also known as the red element) comes closest to the central channel.  In general then, the lunar calendar is based on the motion of the Sun, Moon, and planets, and there is a definite relation of these cycles to the functioning of our subtle internal system.”

1/18/10   Monday

A change has occurred, you can feel it.  One mode has ended and a new mode has emerged.  A greater sense of inspiration is present, and wisdom is in the mix. You know something you did not know previously, and this new awareness makes you want to settle down and relax.  It’s a dreamy time.  But with new insight comes new responsibility.  Remember the words from Jonathan Livingston Seagull “It is good to be a seeker, but sooner or later you have to be a finder.  And then it is well to give what you have found, a gift into the world for whoever will accept it.” You have found something; now why not consider how you can offer it to the world?

How to Make Offerings

280187074_Khnho-S

Meaning and Purpose

The basis for offering is the practice of “Generosity.”  Generosity helps us to be less self-cherishing and thereby more loving to others.  In the Buddhist tradition one makes offerings to the Three Precious Jewels, which are the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, and the Lama who embodies all three.  Offerings are a way of honoring the mind of Enlightenment and the seed potential within all of us to awaken to our true nature.  Also one makes offerings with joy and sincere appreciation for the countless blessings one has been given by one’s teachers who by their supreme generosity have given one the Path and a way to end one’s suffering.  The practice of offering is another way to acknowledge the boundless love and infinite compassion shown to us by all those who have attained Enlightenment solely for the benefit of sentient beings.

On a deeper level, the practice of offering can be done mentally where one offers everything one sees and experiences such as the beauty of fresh flowers, the wonderful scents in our world like freshly baked bread, the comfort one feels from being warm when it is cold outside, the taste of delicious food, and the happiness we feel when we see a friend we haven’t seen in a while.  As we walk through the mall, we can offer everything we see and experience, clothes, furniture, etc.  When one is practicing generosity in this way, it is also viewed as a way of renouncing our attachment to these worldly things that are impermanent anyway and only give us temporary happiness. This method of practice if cultivated becomes a potent way of accumulating merit and virtue that can then be offered for the benefit of sentient beings.

What to Offer

Generally, one offers the very best that can be obtained or that one has the means to offer.  If the offering is given sincerely from the heart, then even water that is offered  becomes a treasure.  Flowers, light, incense, perfume or sweet scent, pure water, a conch shell (symbolizes music), and food are traditional offerings.  Crystals, jewelry, malas, and money are also suitable offerings.

How to Make the Offering

As a Buddhist, upon entering the shrine room one makes three prostrations towards the altar.  Then one arouses the thought of Bodhicitta, which is the sincere wish or motivation to be of benefit to sentient beings by working to achieve enlightenment.  The offering is made on the lowest level of the altar or could be placed at the base or foot of the altar.  In the case of offering a mala, the mala should be placed on the foot of the image of the Buddha but never around the neck.  If offering a BLESSED mala, please note that once offered, the mala can never again be used for personal use.  The practice of offering is considered to be a virtuous act, so remember to dedicate the merit and offer it as well for the benefit of all sentient beings.

What Not to Offer

Generally it is best not to offer anything sour or bitter like lemons or limes.  Also one would not offer an image of the Buddha such as a statue or a photograph of the Buddha.

When to Make an Offering

Offerings can be made at anytime, however in the Tibetan lunar calendar, there are auspicious days when merit is increased that are traditionally observed by making offerings.  For example, the 10th Day or Guru Rinpoche Day, the 25th Day or Dakini Day, 10 Million Days (there are four during the year) which mark different events in the life of Shakyamuni Buddha, and Losar the Tibetan New Year.

1/17/2010    Sunday

Pay attention to what you were dreaming or thinking of as you woke up this morning. This is a powerful day for intuitive thinking that is “right on”.  You are emotionally perceptive and optimistic.  Imagination is very helpful in terms of pointing the way to the future.    You could come up with something amazing, inventive and productive.  Jot down all the things you imagine or daydream about.  Sift through your list and “voila!”  You could have just imagined a future that is successful.  A major energetic change occurs between today and tomorrow.  Pay attention!
