Keeping Love Alive

From a series of tweets by @ahkonlhamo

Love. It is CRAZY! We won’t open up our hearts.  Then when we do, we guard the feast jealously. We grieve when adversity appears.

If we try to kill it, it is US that dies. We ARE love. Starving heart does foolish things- grows fangs, hardens, says, “AH! Screw you!”

But still we LOVE! Don’t put the LOVE to bed. Have courage. Even if beloved is as angry as a deranged wildcat. Step back. Wait. Love differently.

Without Love we dry up and are gone. Gone. Not gone beyond, either. Just gone. If only we could remember what this costs us!

To have a heart full of LOVE and a belly full of NOTHING is a kind of death. Don’t go there. If you have, don’t stay there. Love is LIFE!

Dreams

How I wish there was something to say

To nuture the dreams we have today

To seek the path and find a way

To hold you close, to sway,

To music only we can hear- Sacrament of joy spoken to my ear- I love you;

I love you;

ah, my Dear What secret whisper brought you here!

I love you.

So very clear I miss you can you not hear My sighs?

My light?

Floating down the river night

Soon be gone from your sight.

Love you.

Love – a Solid Foundation

From a series of tweets from @ahkonlhamo

I am hoping to teach on Sunday, if merit prevails.   I am aware that we are growing, and that new students are coming.  I would like to help them get a good foundation, and who doesn’t need more Bodhicitta training, Dzogchen View and Guru Yoga? We all do.

Kyabje His Holiness Penor Rinpoche always taught a solid foundation was necessary and resisted teaching Dzogchen for years. He felt we must rely on the Guru and taught a lot of Guru Yoga at first. But the most important thing is to give rise to Bodhicitta.

Without the preliminaries, higher Tantra cannot take root. Like seeds falling on stone, there is no way it can anchor and grow. Like a hard, dry mind, seeds cannot awaken. Even if one is completely convinced of their “realization” it is not the case. Bodhicitta is the very essence and display of Primordial Buddhanature.

Kyabje His Holiness Penor Rinpoche always displayed such kindness. Even when he was wrathful it was based on Bodhicitta, the wish to remove obstacles. And he did.  In the end, I only remember the loving kindness he always showed me – his giggle, his power, his love and support, which I ache for now.

Liars and Beartraps

From a series of tweets by Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo:

I was given a book as a gift, looks interesting. It is by Diana Mukpo, widow of HE Trungpa Rinpoche. Called “Dragon Thunder: My Life with Chogyam Trungpa.”

I have been curious about their relationship since Bill Cassidy trashed it so badly. Having experience with his vile gossip I’d like to see for myself what the story is. They look totally in love on the cover, a sweet kiss. Knowing Cassidy, his dark, sick version is a big fat lie.

Funny about liars, they get to a point where they lie to themselves as well. And no one can ever trust them. They can never trust themselves

Therefore, I feel lies are like beartraps in that once stepping in U’ll never be the same. You will get caught. And it hurts. Stay away

From liars and beartraps. Watch you don’t end up in bear poop! LOL! #stopthehate #bringthelove #feedthepoor #Tibet

Twitter’s Full Potential

Dear Twitterville, I woke up pretty sick today. Woke up feeling I’d been beaten with a pipe. Then I saw on twitter last night I had! Hate.

I woke up thrashing, crying, calling to the Buddhas and Protectors to help. Then I woke up and prayed. I’m exhausted and feeling awful.

Hate should not be permitted to thrive on twitter. In today’s world it’s about connecting, loving, sharing, networking. Just as foster dogs got saved by me and my peeps due to Twitter.  And a friend given $$$ for rent. I call for twitter to be cleaned up and allowed to reach it’s full potential to improve our world and strengthen the world community. It should not be used to serve cruelty and evil.

We MUST band together and INSIST the haters + demonic types do not take us down.Complain LOUDLY, then block and ignore.Remember: war IS the enemy.

What’s right is right; what’s wrong is wrong. Ethics matter. And we must with compassion, banish hate+lies. And give LOVE space to grow!

Anyhow, I’m ill, my pack is worried as hell I don’t seem OK to them. Alpha#1 is down! Everyone panic! Poor loves. I’ll take them to cuddle.

Three Root Poisons

A teaching by Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo (via Twitter @ahkonlhamo on May 10, 2010)

Of the three root poisons – hate, greed, and ignorance – I find hate the most repugnant, as it affects more than the hater. But the root poisons are interdependent. If there is hate, there is desire – wanting what is not yours, jealousy of status, power, or material goods. Nations war for plunder (oil), power, land, and sadly, extremist religious belief (power).

Desire can exist without hate, but not often or easily.  Desire, however is what binds us to phenomena, it constantly focuses on self and other – duality. One has to be seeing beings as separate in their nature, which indeed we are not. There can be no grasping with correct view.

Now ignorance is the bottom line. Ignorance is not lack of knowledge. A PHD can be ignorant. A scholar can easily be so. Ignorance is lack of awakening to the primordial ground of being.  In other words, the person is not “awake” as Buddha described; not able to discriminate between primordial nature and it’s display, phenomena.

That is ignorance, and scholarship does not alter it. When people try to explain primordial nature they likely never met “it.” There are no words that describe.  That sort of intellectual masturbation is NO help; is harmful in that people become jaded. To talk about “truth” crucifies it on a “cross.” You can see the trace or shadow, but are blind to the miraculous. Having said that we should strive to study Dharma faithfully, being careful not to generate pridefulness. The main point of Dharma is awakening; so we must meditate and practice!

We must be mindful that not everyone who talks the talk actually walks the walk. You must study the life (not the story) to see who is who. If you look for a teacher, study, research, do not go suddenly blind because you are seduced, spiritually! Teacher and student should examine ach other for at least three years before a sacred commitment. It is a relationship that will return life after life! So be careful, there are many self-anointed wizards out there that must NOT be trusted. Think of your path as a virgin daughter, and guard her with your heart.  And now it’s time to pray! What a coincidence!! Do we talk it or do we walk it?

Refuge and Bodhicitta

From the ” Path of the Bodhisattva
A Collection of Thirty-Seven Practices”

Until the heart of enlightenment is realized,
I take refuge in all the Buddhas.

Likewise, I take refuge in the dharma
and the bodhisattvas and their assemblies.

Just as the sugatas of the past
aroused the awakened mind of bodhicitta

and trained in the way of the bodhisattvas
to gradually accomplish the stages of development,

similarly, for the benefit and purpose of beings,
by awakening bodhicitta and

training in the conduct of the bodhisattvas,
I shall gradually develop on the levels of training.

(repeat three times)

Today I have picked the fruit of this lifetime.
The meaning of this human existence is now realized.

Today I am born into the family of the Buddhas
and have become an heir of the enlightened ones!

Now, no matter what occurs hereafter,
my activities will be in conscientious accord with the family,

and I shall never engage in conduct that could
possibly sully this faultless family!

Like a blind man in a heap of refuse,
suddenly, by chance, finding a precious jewel,

similarly, this occasion is such that
today I have given rise to the awakened mind!

Today, before all of my objects of refuge,
the sugatas, as well as all beings,

I call to bear witness where the guests of this occasion —
the devas, the titans, and others — all join together to rejoice!

The precious bodhicitta,
if unborn, may it arise;

when generated, may it never diminish,
and may it always remain ever-increasing!

Never apart from bodhicitta,
engaged in the conduct of the awakened ones,

being held fast by all of the Buddhas,
may all demonic activities be fully abandoned!

May all the bodhisaattvas
accomplish the welfare of others, according to their wisdom mind’s intentions.

Whatever wisdom intention these protectors may have,
may it come to pass for all sentient beings.

May all sentient beings be endowed with bliss,
may all the lower realms be permanently emptied!

May all the bodhisattvas, on whatever bhumi they remain,
fully accomplish all of their aspirations!

An Excerpt from: PATH OF THE BODHISATVA A collection of the 37 practices by Shantideva

From the Master Shantideva: For when with irreversible intent the mind embraces Bodhicitta with a willingness to set free the endless multitudes of beings, at that instant and from that moment onward, a great and unremitting stream, a strength of wholesome merit, even during sleep and inattention, rises equal to the vastness of the sky. For like the supreme substance of the alchemists, it takes the the impure form of human flesh and makes of it the priceless body of a Buddha. Such is Bodhicitta; we must firmly embrace it!

Acting only in their own self-interest, the shravakas and pratyekabuddhas exert themselves as though extinguishing fires in their own own heads. How much more then should the Bodhisattva undertake to practice diligence, the source of all qualities that serve to benefit others. This is the way of bodhisattva practice.

How to Handle Crisis

From a series of tweets via @ahkonlhamo

This is a nightmare. Bella is critical. Beloved Tex is in endstage at hospice, and I’m flat out with a wrenched back. I hoped to see Tex and Marissa, but I can’t walk.

Trying to breathe, watching the mind process this. When there is so much sorrow and stress it is hard to see around, over or through phenomena.

Bella may not have long. Tex has two days or so. We are scrambling to pay large bills, and the hate I’ve had thrown at me, I must pull back, breathe. Relax mind.

Karma ripens much worse if mind’s upset. The root and display are not separate.  Rest the mind on AH, the point of arising and non-arising. Same. Nondual view.

Sometimes cause and result can be shifted, but not erased. We cannot be so compelled by appearance that we are powerless. We are primordial space.

For Tex, the karma is exhausted. For Bella, not so much, so prayer is essential. For Tex, he needs to be guided through the bardo. I prepare for that.

If I let myself stay in an emotional blender I will be no use. So I watch my mind, breathe for Bella, guide Tex to a good rebirth.  OM MANI PEDME HUNG

Today the skies do my crying, the wind does my sighing, yet even now gentle rains call forth new life from the very earth.
