It feels like you’re slowly peddling your bike backwards, retracing your previous ride. Why? Mercury, the planet of thought, is retrograde. It’s time to re-do, to go back over what you’ve done before. Emotional matters come to the surface and you need to pay attention to them. Ever take a refresher course? Impatience, “I already did this!” is the enemy. Look at the old as if it were brand new, and you’ll come away with a new understanding. Luckily, cheerful people surround you, making the process fun. You may leave things that aren’t intrinsically satisfying. Life gets better, not worse, as you do this. Why? You let go of non-productive habits and act more in accordance with your true wishes. Carlos Castaneda said “Any habit needs all its parts in order to function. If some parts are missing, the habit is disassembled.” It’s all up to you. Happiness enters the picture as the day progresses. A meeting with friends or family is great. Cook, talk, have a ball. Emotional generosity is in the picture, spread it around. If you meet a distraught person, accept anything they tell you graciously, no matter how personal. A shocking confession is possible; your job is to listen with kindness and compassion. Do not repeat what you have heard. An early conversation or communication establishes a sense of certainty; you got the message. This is a good day to begin a delayed trip. Things you planned but didn’t get around to doing can be done now. If you feel like you’re living in the past, you are! Get busy on the long-postponed home improvement project, call family members and make contact with children. Be prepared to listen to long stories of people’s childhood years.(“And now, let me tell you of my childhood in Lithuania.”) Take turns talking and listening. Expect to cry or at least sniffle. Everyone’s on a sentimental journey. Write your memoirs! Avoid any brand new plan that pops up, it will come to nothing. Don’t buy cars or machines unless you contracted in advance. Do your best to avoid debates, protests or any form of public dissent, it can suddenly blow up into something bigger than you ever imagined. But do express your love to those who matter to you. Enduring love, the kind that brings great comfort and solid sleep at night, is here. About face! Something you thought was finished is coming back for review. This causes an emotional response, be prepared. A decision must be made, but there’s no clearcut answer. Do your best to wait until a reasonable conclusion is possible. Today you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. It seems a little devil is poking you and saying, “Well, well, what’s it going to be?” Get laryngitis! A man or powerful person comes up with the solution much later in the day, and you’ll know it when you hear it. You may need to conduct a complete review of a project, you may need to toss out all your planning and begin anew. Ahhhh. A domestic or emotional issue comes back for reconsideration. Children are in the spotlight in an unexpected way. Emotional support, not rational explanation, is what’s needed today. Anonymous said, “Being nice to those you don’t particularly like is not being two-faced; it’s called growing up.” Grown ups are seriously needed today. On the bright side, true love is in the picture and kind speech solves a million problems.

A dream or early morning conversation is emotionally satisfying. Women and children are in sync and willing to join forces in a work project. Bake cookies, clean house. Tend to the small tasks of life that keep things running smoothly: get a haircut, buy underwear, toothpaste, arch supports. Take vitamins, take your temperature. Call friends and ask their opinion about shampoo. Listen to people’s health worries. Everyone’s an expert and everyone provides first rate suggestions on everything you need to know. Spend fifteen minutes psychoanalyzing your pet. The little things take precedence today and it’s fun. Lama Surya Das said, “Everyone is a little crazy, especially me. Remembering this helps us lighten up.” You’ll know the energy has changed when you suddenly become indecisive and need a partner. When that happens it’s time to stop working on the small stuff and take a break. You’ve earned it.
